After Spielberg’s 14 year absence, he is set to return to Warner Bros to direct Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. The latest film he directed was back in 2001 for A.I. Artificial Intelligence.
According to Deadline, cinematic rights were bought a year before the novel was published by Random House Crown back in 2011. Donald De Line and Dan Farah were set to produce the movie and bring the movie to life.
Now that the director has been sought, the question now arises on the novel’s rich pop cultural references and it’s seemingly virtual-reality game environment. Ready Player One is set in the year 2044. A year when reality is ugly & virtual reality seems to the way to go for Wade Watts. He feels more alive in the virtual reality game than he does in reality. However, when he finds the first clue in the game, little did he know that other gamers are willing to fight for the prize even if it means to kill.
It’s definitely an interesting story line, and I would definitely go watch this movie because 1) Steven Spielberg is one of my favorite directors, 2) I want to see how Spielberg is able to bring this novel to life in this virtual reality world), & 3) The story is intriguing.
Do you guys think that Spielberg has what it takes to bring the Ernest Cline’s Ready Player One to life?
