I count myself pretty lucky that I was one of the first people to get to interview and find out who the new Children’s Laureate was last two weeks ago, and I was thrilled that it was Chris Riddell.

Chris is an illustrator and author from the UK who takes over from Malorie Blackman in the prestigious role of Waterstones Children’s Laureate for 2015-2017, who intends to promote the importance of drawing to children nationally in the UK and indeed internationally as well.

Riddell is famous for the Goth Girl and Ottoline books as well as for being the political cartoonist in British Sunday newspaper The Observer, and intends to keep to a promise of logging every day as Laureate in a Laureate Log, which he intends to publish online every day.

If you live in the UK, prepare yourself: he intends to randomly go into Waterstone’s branches nationally and just draw on anything he can find. He has been given permission to do this though!

Join me in celebrating Chris Riddell in his new role as Children’s Laureate 2015-2017!
