‘Mockingjay-Part 2’ Falls Short in Box Office for Finale

According to Miami Herald, “Mockingjay-Part 2” fell short of industry expectations unlike other franchises’ final installments such as Twilight and Harry Potter.

The domestic ticket sales in the U.S. and Canada fell short of the expected $120 million. The total gross came out to be $101 million. Unlike the other installments, “The Hunger Games,” opened with a bang of $152.2 million domestically in 2012; with “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” in the lead of $158.1 million. “Mockingjay-Part 1” fell short of $121.9 million.

David Spitz, Liongate’s executive presiden and general manager of theatrical domestic distribution, says the entire franchise broke the $2 million mark for the global box office.
