The Divergent Series: Insurgent was released Friday, March 21st. It has been exactly one year since the first part of the four part saga movie has been released by Lionsgate Summit Entertainment starring Shailene Woodley, Theo James. Co-starring Ansel Elgort, Kate Winslet, and Miles Teller. Insurgent itself grossed $54.6 million on opening weekend. Insurgent grossed slightly lower than Divergent grossing $54 million in the U.S. on opening weekend according to Coming Soon. On Friday, Insurgent’s grossed estimated to be about $21.3 million including the $4.1 million from the premiere on Thursday.
According to Coming Soon, Insurgent gross was $47 million from 76 territories with France being the highest top-grossed country with $5.8 million, followed by the UK with $4.5 million, and Brazil with $4.2 million. Overall, Insurgent made a grand total of $101 million. $5.3 million of the global gross came from IMAX screenings with $3.6 million of that amount came from the IMAX screenings.
Insurgent made it to the top box office list following Cinderella with $34.5 million, Run All Night with $5.1 million, The Gunman with $5.0 million, and The Kingsman with $4.0 million.
